Items belonging to William Henry Smith, who was president of the Shire of Lilydale, ca. 1896. Includes testimonials and correspondence related to his employment, 1866-73, and other documents relating to his civil duties and election as President of Lilydale Shire. Also skit on menu, written by Smith, while a passenger on ship "True Briton". ( He was later put in ship's prison for displaying menu on notice board). Invitation by Mayor of Melbourne, to President of the Shire of Lilydale, to wish 'success and safe return' to Hon. Alfred Deakin M.P. Also luncheon invitation by Mayor of Melbourne, M.D. McEacharn, 20 May 1898. Also 2 volumes of illuminated addresses from municipalities of Victoria on long term loan.
